Our History

In 2012, the County Public Health Department completed the Vietnamese American Health Assessment, revealing that the Vietnamese American community in Santa Clara County faced disparities and chalenges in mental health, health care, physical health, intergenerational conflict, and difficulty in navigating existing county services. On February 23, 2016, the Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the designation of the County-owned parcel located at Senter Road near Tully Road in San José as the site for the future VASC. On completion, the VASC would serve as a hub for County health and human services delivered in a culturally competent and language-accessible manner.

On October 23, 2021, the VASC ribbon-cutting ceremony unveiled the center and subsequently opened its doors with a suite of services on the first floor as part of a soft opening period from December 2021 to February 2022. Services included a Senior Nutrition Program, Behavioral Health Peer Navigation and Support Services, Social Services Benefits Application Services Assistance, and Community Health and Wellness Programming.

On April 10, 2022, the VASC held its grand opening ceremony with full-service operations on its first and second floors, which include ambulatory primary care, lab, dental, and pharmacy services and specialty and mild-to-moderate behavioral health services.
